Monday 5th of May seen us host the biggest youth football event for u7-u12 age groups in Northern Ireland. The event was named after the late Jimmy Jones. Jimmy is the all-time leading goal scorer in Irish League History having played most notably at Belfast Celtic and Glenavon. Jimmy scored a record 646 career goals and once scored an incredible 74 goals in one season.

The Jimmy Jones Memorial Craigavon Cup brought together all the major clubs in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland with the likes of Glentoran, Glenavon, Portadown, Ballymena, Coleraine, Cliftonville, Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne, Bohemians and Derry City all participating in the event.

The invitational tournament had a total of 16 teams at each age group from u7, u8, u9, u10, u11 & U12 with an official attendance of 2,243 inside Mourneview Park stadium. Some great football was played and no doubt many international stars of the future were on show. We would like to thank the Mayor of Craigavon Mark Baxter for supporting the event, staff at Craigavon Borough Council, Adrian Teer Glenavon F.C Chairman and Roy McMahon Chairman of Portadown F.C for his support also.

Big thanks also to all the sponsors who contributed towards the event including Main Sponsor’s McDonald’s Restaurant Craigavon and Sainsbury’s Craigavon.

Plans for the 2015 event are well underway.
