About

The Playing for the Future group was formed in Jan 2009 as a result of an UnLtd Sports Relief grant. The grant was awarded to Thomas McStravick and his idea was to organise a 6 week cross-community football tournament and coaching in Portadown. The tournament was a great success and involved teams from Portadown, Lurgan, Loughgall, Newry, Tandragee and Armagh and also attracted top level coaches with UEFA C, A and pro Licences.

Due to the success of the event another grant was received from The Big Deal NI for another tournament with the idea to again involve young people from areas across NI to combat anti-social behaviour, sectarianism and increase decision making among the Young People. The project involved teams from Portadown, Lurgan, Loughgall, Newry, Warrenpoint, Dungannon, Cookstown, Lisburn and Moneyslane Co. Down. There were a total of 120 players that took part in the three day event.
